According to a chart I have on production figures of the Models 39 A, 39 M, 39 C and 39 D ( well, all the 39 series from 1952) there were only 6 39 M's made in 1980. For some reason, production on the Model 39's was quite low for several years (1977 to 1983)., The Marlin records end in 1906 and around serial number 355,000. With barrel roll stamps and other info, besides just the serial number, there are folks here that will be able to pin a date of manufacture down to within a few years., I have searched this and other sites for the manufacturing date of my Marlin 39A rifle but am very frustrated.
