Walther PP's made at Zella-Mehlis for example had internal slide serial numbers. My 1944 PP 32 has the serial number duplicated on the slide, my 1936 PP 22 and 1939 PPK 32 do not. As long as it looks like it's in good condition I wouldn't worry about the serial number.
